A little about the awards…

The Technical Theatre Awards have been created to highlight the outstanding achievements of individuals working within the theatre industry, and the products and services used by them every day. Although a number of pre-existing theatre-based award opportunities do a great job to acknowledge some of the great work that goes on ‘behind the scenes’, there are many backstage roles and services that have been overlooked and uncelebrated in their excellence for too long! The TTAs offer all individuals working professionally within the industry an opportunity to both recognise the excellence of their colleagues and gain recognition for the time and commitment that they dedicate to the arts.

The awards will function very simply, with any individuals working within the theatre industry having the opportunity to participate. Nominations open on Friday 1st March 2013 and from this point, anyone working in the industry has a period of 3 months to nominate individuals for any of the nineteen awards up for grabs.

Simply visit the Nominate page to submit your nominations. You’ll be asked to provide a short statement explaining your choice of nominee: this is your opportunity to tell us at the TTAs why the person or company you’ve chosen stands out above the rest and deserves some recognition, so don’t hold back!

Nominations close on Saturday 1st June 2013 and the Technical Theatre Awards Panel – a selection of experienced individuals working professionally within the industry, will draw up a shortlist of 3 candidates per award. Details of the lucky finalists are released online on Wednesday 12th June 2013 when voting opens.

The idea behind the TTAs is to provide an award ‘created for Techies, by Techies’ so anyone can vote in the Technical Theatre Awards, as long as they work within the industry. Voting is open from Wednesday 12th June 2013 – all you’ll need to do is visit the Vote page and complete the online voting form. Members of the TTA mailing list will receive a reminder when voting opens, as well as a copy of the shortlisters’ personal bios, so visit the Contact page now and sign up.

Voting will close on Monday 30th September, with the final winners being announced online on Tuesday 8th October 2013

How can I get involved?

With this being the first year of the Technical Theatre Awards, there are plenty of opportunities for individuals to get involved:

The Technical Theatre Awards are already lucky enough to have sponsorship from some fantastic theatre-based companies including: Spotlight Accounting, :entertaining sustainability, Stage Jobs Pro, Load Cell Rental, dBS Solutions and AVW Controls Ltd, but we are looking for further support. If you’re a company or individual who is able to offer sponsorship or advertising, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. More information regarding the benefit of becoming an official sponsor can be found on the Sponsor page.

Most significantly, any publicising of the event (no matter how small!) is invaluable. The TTA committee are already busy Twittering and Facebooking like crazy as the plans for the awards develop – help us out by ‘liking’ the Technical Theatre Awards on Facebook, and following us on Twitter (@technicalawards). The awards are open to anyone within the industry and we want to spread the word as widely as possible, so prod your colleagues and get them involved!
